The difference between varicose veins and thread veins
Varicose veins and thread veins are forms of a medical condition called venous insufficiency. Both occur when valves in the veins become weakened or damaged. However, the symptoms associated with varicose veins and thread veins are different.
Varicose Veins

If the valves in our veins stop pumping, it causes blood that should go up to go down. The result? Varicose veins. These lumpy and twisted, blue or purple veins cause symptoms such as painful, swollen and heavy legs and feet. They are pretty common, affecting about a third of adults in the UK. Varicose veins are usually larger and are located deeper within the leg than thread veins.
Thread Veins

Commonly known as spider veins, these tiny blue or red vessels sit close to the skin’s surface. They can appear in small clusters or spread across the legs and feet. Generally, thread veins are painless, however, they can cause an itching or burning sensation. As we get older, our skin gets thinner, so it’s more likely that you will notice thread veins during this time.
The good news is that with the right treatment, it is easy to remedy varicose veins and thread veins.
