Why is it important to have a specialist varicose vein treatment plan?

There is no one size fits all for varicose vein treatment. Thanks to advances in modern technology, patients are now provided with a wide range of treatment options which can be used either on their own or in tandem with one another to help achieve the best results. In this article, we will explain what a varicose vein consultation process should look like, as well as the available treatment plans to effectively and safely treat them.

What does a consultation look like?

Here at Premier Veins, we offer a FREE, no-obligation mini-consultation for anyone considering varicose vein treatment at one of our private clinics in Birmingham, Solihull, Leamington Spa and London. The consultation will provide you with an opportunity to:

After a FREE mini-consultation, you will then be required to book-in for an initial consultation. Here, one of our leading consultant vascular surgeons will perform a more detailed examination, including a medical history and symptoms overview and a duplex ultrasound scan to fully assess your varicose veins and create a tailored treatment plan to effectively and safely deal with them, in a way which will suit your lifestyle and meet your expectations. An initial consultation costs £249 and is refunded from your treatment plan fee.

What are the varicose vein treatment options?

Thankfully, varicose vein treatment is much quicker and less invasive than it used to be (long gone are the days of vein stripping!). At Premier Veins, we offer a wide range of effective walk-in-walk-out treatments for your varicose veins. During your initial consultation, our expert vascular consultants will advise you on one or a combination of the following treatment options:

Radiofrequency Ablation (RFA)

The National Institute for Health and Care Excellence recommends Radiofrequency Ablation (a form of Endothermal Ablation) as the first line of treatment for varicose veins. It is a minimally invasive keyhole procedure performed under local anaesthetic.

RFA uses radiofrequency energy (like laser) to improve the appearance of less superficial varicose veins and relieve symptoms such as heaviness, pain and skin irritation. It can also be used alongside Ultrasound-Guided Foam Sclerotherapy (see below) to treat troublesome tortuous veins.

Radiofrequency Ablation only leaves a tiny amount of scarring, bruising or swelling, and the procedure is generally less painful and more convenient than other treatment options. We also bandage the area using a full-length compression stocking. It is important to note, at Premier Veins we proudly offer a 12-month guarantee for this treatment option. Ultrasound-Guided Foam Sclerotherapy (UGFS)

The quickest, most cost-effective and least invasive treatment for more superficial and tortuous varicose veins. UGFS relieves pain and skin irritation and improves the appearance of your legs, ankles and feet. It is a walk-in-walk-out procedure that uses local anaesthetic and a foam injection.

Following treatment, we will dress your leg with compression bandage and an elastic compression stocking that you’ll wear for two to three days. You should notice reduced symptoms straight away, and an improvement in the appearance soon after. Please note, it can take up to 12 months to see the final cosmetic results.

UGFS can be performed on its own or alongside Radiofrequency Ablation to resolve your vein issues in a single short visit. Here at Premier Veins, we also proudly offer a 12-month guarantee for this treatment option. For more information about Ultrasound-Guided Foam Sclerotherapy, click here.

Through an initial consultation, our award-winning consultants will work with you to determine which of these treatments is most suitable – be it on their own or together – to achieve the very best results.
